Microbial colonization and community stability in a marine post-smolt RAS inoculated with a commercial starter culture

The performance of a commercial starter culture was investigated in new marine post-smolt RAS, analyzing the microbial communities 100 samples collected monthly over year from biofilter biofilm carriers, tank wall biofilm, production water and fish skin. Totally 139 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were defined culture, which classified members Rhodobacterales, Bacteroidetes, Alteromonadales Planctomycetes largely first colonizers carriers. Early colonizing OTUs that dominated carriers (> 5% relative abundance) stably present time, but development went slowly few with very high abundance to several dominant ones lower abundance. Operating not associated starting became prominent on only towards end trial period. These termed environmental OTUs. Comparing two OTU quantitives ratio, where counts based all sample, OTUs:environmental 1.2 0.9 at last sampling time for Correspondingly, RAS sites together, ratio changed 0.8 0.6 during experiment.
